For no good reason I decided to look up the word hoax. According to the dictionary, it means an act intended to trick or dupe \u2014 or \u2014 something accepted or established by fraud or fabrication.
Digging a little deeper, the word hoax is a shortening of \u201chocus-pocus,\u201d a synonym for trickery that in turn comes from the Latin \u201choc corpus est\u201d \u2014 \u201cThis is my body\u201d \u2014 the phrase spoken during the Mass when Catholics believe that the bread is transformed into the body of Christ.
