Well, here we go \u2014 new month, new year.\u00a0
January was named after the Roman god Janus \u2014 and as appropriate, Janus represented new beginnings. Interestingly, Janus was known as the protector of gates and doorways as well as symbolizing beginnings and endings. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve seen him depicted with two faces \u2014one looking into the past, the other with the ability to see into the future. So I guess he\u2019s a good symbol for the first month of the new year \u2014 January is our door into the new year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This month\u2019s full Moon will reach peak illumination on Thursday, January 25, at 12:54 p.m. EST, and it\u2019s called the Wolf Moon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for 2024, it\u2019s a leap year and starts today, Monday, on the Gregorian calendar and is the 2024th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations. It\u2019s the 24th year of the 3rd millennium, the 24th year of the 21st century and the 5th year of the 2020s decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Major events this year will include the Summer Olympics held in Paris and the United States presidential election.\u00a0
And be sure and save the calendar for this year \u2014 it can be used again in 2052.
