There continues to be a controversy as to whether to tell the \u201creal story\u201d of slavery in the United States.\u00a0<br>I suppose it probably is the same in a lot of other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s acknowledged that the United States was one of the last nations to abolish slavery \u2014 but \u2014 it wasn\u2019t the <em>last<\/em> \u2014 even in the Americas. That distinction goes to Brazil, in 1888.<br>It\u2019s generally accepted that the last nation to abolish slavery was Mauritania, a country in west Africa, in 1981.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today human trafficking for labor, and other activities, continues to affect millions of adults and children \u2014 even though it\u2019s \u201cillegal\u201d worldwide \u2014 and against international law.\u00a0<br>I\u2019m not sure teaching our kids that there were some benefits for the enslaved from the practice is beneficial to anyone\u2026..<br>The fact is that slavery existed \u2014 and was not, in any way, a good thing.
