One that I mentioned was \u201cthat dog won\u2019t hunt.\u201d That\u2019s a dismissive phrase used to mean that a particular idea or approach is going to fail or that a certain accusation is false. The first time I remember hearing that one was during the Clinton Administration. I don\u2019t remember why he said it \u2014 probably in opposition to something, but it was a phrase that I\u2019ve remembered.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clinton was from Arkansas and I think the expression probably originated in the south. I didn\u2019t check, but I imagine it\u2019s an old hunting expression\u2026. for most hunters, any dog that won\u2019t hunt is pretty useless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the people in Oklahoma usually don\u2019t admit it \u2014 I grew up in the south and sometimes southerners don\u2019t say things directly, but use colorful phrases that gets the idea across better than a few words.<br>Maybe one day I\u2019ll blog about some of the phrases I remember from when I was growing up\u2026..\u00a0<br>\u2014 30 \u2014<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few days ago the subject was about dog phrases or \u201cidioms\u201d that have made their way into our language.
